One Year of Connection: Celebrating UMass Downtown and Its Impact

Las week, the community gathered to celebrate a special milestone - the one-year anniversary of UMass Downtown. Located at 108 N. Pleasant St., the space came alive as guests stopped by to say hello, enjoy sweet treats, and explore everything it has to offer. From the moment doors opened, there was a steady stream of visitors - many eager to be among the first 50 guests who received a free UMass Downtown tote bag.

The celebration didn’t stop there- Attendees also had the chance to enter a grand prize giveaway featuring some incredible local collaborations: an overnight stay and breakfast at Inn on Boltwood, a $150 gift card to Osteria Vespa, a curated gift box from Aster & Pine, along with gift cards to the UMass Store and an Amherst Area Gift Card to explore even more local favorites. One lucky winner took home the full prize package, but the energy of the event made it feel like everyone walked away with something.

More than just a welcome center, UMass Downtown has become a true hub for connection between campus and the Amherst community. Over the past year, it has served as a space where people can gather for lectures, meetings, readings, performances, and other small-scale events. It’s also home to a boutique retail experience, offering both new and classic UMass favorites curated in partnership with the UMass Store.

During regular business hours, the space doubles as a campus welcome center, offering a friendly entry point for visitors and a place to get connected. Campus partners - including UMass HR and Off Campus Student Life - have also hosted regular community office hours there, further strengthening its role as a shared resource.

Managed by the Office of Community Relations and University Events in partnership with UMass Auxiliary Enterprises, UMass Downtown continues to grow into exactly what it set out to be: a place where campus and community naturally come together.

If you haven’t stopped by yet, consider this your invitation. Whether you’re browsing, attending an event, or simply looking to connect, UMass Downtown is a space built for you.

Here’s to one year—and many more moments of connection ahead.
