Twinkling Lights and Handcrafted Delights

Downtown Amherst sparkled with holiday charm on Thursday, December 19, 2024 as Amherst residents joined the festivities at the 3rd Annual Sip ’n Shop Stroll. From 5–9 PM, the event offered a perfect evening to unwind, explore the town, and get into the holiday spirit—just steps away from home.

The night began at the Visitor Information Center on South Pleasant Street, where guests could grab a stroll map before setting out. Residents enjoyed a picturesque horse-drawn carriage ride through town, then wandered between local boutiques and eateries, taking in the sights and sounds of the season.

Participating retailers like Amherst Books, Zanna, Julie Nolan Jewelry, and The Toy Box welcomed visitors with holiday displays and unique gift ideas. Over at Gallery A3, guests caught a glimpse of local artwork before it closed at 7 PM, and at the new Aster & Pine Market, handmade goods were a crowd favorite. Amherst Innovative also joined the evening’s festivities, tabling alongside other local businesses and contributing to the vibrant community spirit of the event.

For dinner, residents took advantage of the special three-course prix fixe menus offered at top local spots including Bistro 63, Osteria Vespa, Pasta E Basta, and 30Boltwood. Others dropped by Amherst Coffee to celebrate its 19th anniversary and monthly Oyster Night, or indulged in the oysters and wine pairing event at Protocol.

A highlight of the evening was the Makers and Artisans Market at The Drake, a live music venue that transformed into a festive bazaar filled with handmade treasures. The market extended into the neighboring CAIA Association building, showcasing over a dozen talented vendors like Planted Pigments, Black Cats Pottery, Mattoon Soap Co., and Tiny Anvil. With live music and one-of-a-kind gifts around every corner, it was a cozy, creative space to gather and shop local.

Events like the Sip ’n Shop Stroll remind us just how vibrant and welcoming the Amherst community can be—especially during the holiday season. It was a night of connection, celebration, and discovery, and Amherst residents were glad to be part of it.
