AIL Supports Dakin Humane Society
At Amherst Innovative Living…
It’s no secret that we love our furry friends! As part of our ongoing commitment to community care and empowerment, we recently invited residents from across all of our communities to participate in a supply drive benefitting our friends at Dakin Humane Society.
About Dakin Humane Society
Founded in 1969, the Springfield-based Dakin Humane Society is a 501 (c) (3) community-supported animal welfare organization which envisions “A world where services that support the human-animal bond are accessible to all and companion animals are no longer vulnerable.”. Thanks to the generosity of our community members, we were able to support the dedicated full time staff members and over 350 volunteers at Dakin in their tireless efforts to provide “shelter, medical care, spay/neuter services, and behavioral rehabilitation” to nearly 20,000 animals each year. We at AIL are proud to highlight Dakin Humane Society’s longstanding positive impact on humans and animals alike after over 50 years of leading welfare initiatives and providing vital care services across Western Mass and the Pioneer Valley.
Our Impact
Residents showed their appreciation for Dakin Humane Society’s animal welfare initiatives by donation by dropping off their donations of highly-requested items like canned petfoods, cat litter, timothy hay, and cleaning supplies at donation bins posted in each of our lobbies. AIL community members ultimately provided 60+ pounds in life-saving donations collected through the month of January. We sincerely thank every community member who participated in our supply drive for their dedication to making Western Mass a better place for animals and animal lovers alike.
More Ways to Show Your Support
While visiting Dakin last week, we met Magdalenda or “Maggie” for short who is looking for a new home! Find more information about her HERE. There are plenty of other ways that anyone looking to show their support for Dakin Humane Society can do so, starting by registering for the organization’s upcoming Will Run For Cookies 5k! The event will happen in Westfield's Stanley Park on Saturday, May 9th and has already raised $10,900 of its $50,000 fundraising goal. Other ways to support Dakin include volunteering and fostering, purchasing items from their online wishlist, and organizing your own fundraiser or supply drive! Those interested in adoption are encouraged to visit the Springfield Animal Resource Center, open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12:30-3:00 p.m. Donate to Dakin Humane Society here.
