Partnering for Better Mental Health: Our May 2026 Nonprofit of the Month
Amherst Innovative Living was proud to feature Clinical & Support Options (CSO) as our nonprofit of the month for May 2026! CSO, formerly known as Franklin County Mental Health Association, was formed in 1955 by 22 concerned citizens with the goal of providing mental health services for families in Franklin County. The organization has since grown to employ almost 700 staff and provide assistance to thousands of families throughout Western Massachusetts and the North Quabbin region.
CSO prioritizes a “one-stop” model of comprehensive, holistic services to individuals and families with multiple and complex issues. To do so, it commits internally to excellence in its services while it collaborates externally with community partners to establish and participate in a comprehensive system of assistance and resources for the residents of its communities.
CSO’s long experience with people who have all kinds of disabilities and behavioral health problems leads it to believe that there are no individuals or families it cannot serve well. Its expertise supports people in their progress toward self-sufficiency no matter what challenges they face on that journey. Its leadership team empowers its organization to deliver that care.
Members of Amherst Innovative Living’s team had the opportunity to visit CSO’s Amherst office and meet some of its staff to learn more about the organization’s day-to-day responsibilities. Amherst Innovative is proud to have contributed to an organization that has become vital to providing comprehensive mental health treatment in Western Massachusetts.
