Slicing Into Pi(e) Day

On Friday, March 14th, residents at Kendrick Place and Olympia Place celebrated Pi(e) Day with a delicious twist—pizza! Lobbies were buzzing at lunch time as neighbors gathered to snag a slice, share a laugh, and revel in the pun-filled festivities. Whether you came for the “pi” math or the pie, it was clear the only number that mattered was how many slices were left.

A Slice of π (Pi) in Every Slice of Pie

Pi, denoted by the Greek letter π, is much more than just a quirky pun—it’s one of the most iconic mathematical constants. Defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, π is approximately 3.14159, and its decimal representation is famously infinite and non-repeating (en.wikipedia.org). The first official Pi Day was celebrated in 1988 at San Francisco’s Exploratorium, and in 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives officially recognized March 14 as National Pi Day. Since then, the day has become a playful celebration of math, pie, and even coincides with Albert Einstein’s birthday (apnews.com, en.wikipedia.org).

Delicious Pizza from Antonio’s

The star of the celebration was the pizza from Antonio’s Pizza, a local favorite since 1991. Originally founded in Amherst, MA to serve the college community, Antonio’s quickly became beloved by people of all ages for their unique, high-quality pizzas and friendly service. Over the years, they’ve expanded to multiple locations across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Texas, and Illinois, earning recognition like “Best Pizza” for 21 consecutive years from the Springfield newspaper The Advocate.

Residents enjoyed a variety of flavors, from classic cheese and pepperoni to creative options like chicken bacon ranch, tortellini pesto, and a loaded pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, green pepper, onion, and mushroom combination. Whether you grabbed a classic slice or something adventurous, Antonio’s pizza delivered the perfect Pi(e) Day experience.

Pizza That Brings Us Together

More than a free lunch, Pi(e) Day brought residents together—to chat, unwind, and celebrate community. Laughter echoed through both lobbies as slices were shared, connections were made, and memorable moments unfolded.

Thanks to everyone who came, saw, and conquered their slice of π-zza! We can’t wait to “slice it up” with you again at our next community event.
