Global Rhythms, Local Roots: Inside the Amherst Global Village Festival

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the inaugural Amherst Global Village Festival transformed the Amherst Regional Middle School into a vibrant hub of culture, creativity, and community. Originally planned for the Town Common, the festival was moved indoors due to weather—but that didn’t dampen the energy. Instead, it brought hundreds together to celebrate the many cultures that make Amherst such a dynamic place to live.

A Festival of Culture, Connection, and Celebration

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., attendees enjoyed live performances featuring traditional dance, music, and storytelling from around the world. Acts included the Natyanjali School of Dance, ReBelle, the Amherst Area Gospel Choir, and Lotus Fusion Belly Dance—just to name a few. A special Linguistic Heritage Celebration added an interactive twist with language-centered workshops and performances that honored the spoken and written word.

Throughout the day, international food trucks offered global flavors, and local vendors showcased handcrafted goods, textiles, and art. A Youth Market spotlighted young entrepreneurs, and resource tables—including one hosted by Amherst Innovative Living—connected attendees with local organizations and services.

Why It Matters

More than just a day of fun, the Amherst Global Village Festival was a meaningful celebration of the town’s cultural richness and ongoing commitment to inclusivity. The event encouraged dialogue, understanding, and pride in heritage, all while highlighting the creative, entrepreneurial, and culinary talents within our own neighborhoods.

Organized by a collaborative group—including the Town of Amherst, Amherst BID, Amherst Public Schools, Amherst Human Rights Commission, Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, Amherst Media, and the Black Business Association of Amherst Area—the event also received support from numerous community partners and local businesses.

Amherst Innovative Living was proud to participate and help promote this free, family-friendly celebration. Events like these strengthen the connections between our communities and foster a deeper appreciation for the cultures that shape our town. Whether you came for the food, the performances, or the community spirit, the Global Village Festival was a reminder of just how much we can learn—and celebrate—when we come together.
