From Amherst to Springfield: How AIL Supported Square One Families

When it comes to making a difference, sometimes the most powerful acts are the simplest. This past March, Amherst Innovative Living, LLC and its communities under management showed just how meaningful a community-led effort can be—by hosting a diaper drive that brought dignity and relief to local families.

A Thoughtful Initiative with Big Results

As part of their commitment to supporting local organizations, Amherst Innovative Living selected Square One as their Non-Profit of the Month. But they didn’t stop at recognition. They took action—organizing a diaper drive to benefit the Springfield “Baby Bottoms” Diaper Bank, which is led by Square One and serves over 1,200 families in the region each year.

Residents, staff, and members of the wider Amherst community showed up in a big way, donating diapers of all sizes to help close a gap that too often goes unnoticed.

Why Diapers? Why Now?

Diapers aren’t covered by most public assistance programs, and for families living paycheck to paycheck, affording a basic supply can be a daily stressor. Without enough diapers, children can’t attend daycare, and parents may have to miss work. It’s a domino effect of hardship—one that the Springfield “Baby Bottoms” Diaper Bank is working hard to stop.

Thanks to Amherst Innovative Living’s leadership and the generosity of their community, this diaper drive helped restock the shelves of the diaper bank and relieve a very real burden for many families.

A Closer Look at Square One

At the heart of this effort is Square One, a nonprofit organization that offers early education, care, and family support services to children and families across Springfield. Their vision is grounded in the belief that children thrive in healthy families, and families thrive in strong communities.

By leading the diaper bank, advocating for basic needs like diapers to be recognized as essential, and offering wraparound services to local families, Square One is creating meaningful, long-term change.

Keep the Momentum Going

Amherst Innovative Living has set an example of what community support looks like in action. And the need is ongoing.

Anyone who wants to continue the momentum can donate diapers or funds directly to the Springfield “Baby Bottoms” Diaper Bank. Donations of any size or brand are appreciated, with a particular need for larger sizes. Drop-offs are accepted at:
